I will never let Spinal Bifida come in the way of my dreams — Trish Sena Glabo
On Saturday, March 30, 2019, Trish Sena Glabo went up to the stage to collect her graduation certificate and medal for completing her programme in fashion design, while her classmates and teachers cheered for her enthusiastically. She is clear about her goals — to be a world-renowned fashion designer with an eponymous brand and fashion house to her credit.
She is determined to work as hard as it takes to make this dream come true. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time she would need to overcome a challenge by sheer determination.
Trish was born with a condition in the spinal cord called Spinal Bifida. She doesn’t bother thinking about it much. When asked about the problem, all she says is “I was born with it. I don’t know much because it is a difficult phase in my life. All I know is that it is called Spinal Bifida and it has to do with my spinal cord.”
She wouldn’t let this problem come in the way of her dreams.
“My biggest challenge was stitching because my nerves don’t function properly. I found it difficult but didn’t stop because I am very determined to make my dreams come true. I practised a lot. The help from my lecturers and family made the process quite easy.”
Her lecturers feel she is a talented and promising designer; however humble she may be about her skills.
“We have seen her battle hardships to come this far, be it in stitching machines or walking two floors up to the classrooms. I thought she might even drop out in the middle of the semester, but she proved me wrong,” Rajesh K. Pillai, Head of Fashion Department, says happily.
“Her style of learning is different from others. She is a classic example of the idiom — slow and steady wins the race. She will take her time over a concept, but when she displays what she has learnt, the outcome is so impressive that it justifies her approach without any doubt. Her designs are beautiful, classy, unique and brilliant.”
Trish is looking for a suitable attachment with a talented seamstress. She is well on her way to make her dreams a reality. Here’s wishing Trish Sena all the best from all of us here at School of Fashion and Design! Make it grand, girl.
