“My brand will be about inclusivity and sustainability”- SFD graduate Suely Gomis
Suely Gomis is clear about what she is going to do with her diploma in fashion and design. She is going to start an eponymous label that will embrace every body type.
“I aspire to own a brand which will fit all sizes, ages and gender. Above that I want my brand to show a creative side of my ability. A brand which will be developed locally but would be accepted on the global front too.”
The young designer was one of the students in the Class of 2018 that graduated from the BlueCrest School of Fashion & Design (SFD).
Although confident and focussed now, Suely’s initial days at SFD were not comfortable.
“I had pursued my education in the Portuguese language. When I decided to opt for Fashion Design as a career, I was in Ghana, which is an English speaking country. So before joining BlueCrest, I decided to learn the English language. With the support of friends and family members, I was able to grasp the language and pursue my dream career in Fashion Design at BlueCrest College.”
Her lecturers vouch for her focus and hard work.
“At times she would feel hesitant and feel like giving up just before exams. However, it did not take her very long to overcome that hesitation. She picked up the new way of language and writing style. All the teachers in the department are proud of her and the way she adapted to new circumstances,” says Rajesh K Pillai, SFD’s academic head.
He adds “She is very helpful towards her peers. You cannot miss how courteous and kind she is. All her submissions were on time, and she had been an inspiration to all her classmates.”
Suely is passionate about her craft and wants to delve deeper into it.
“There is nothing more empowering than to create something from scratch to finish. The face of the fashion industry is changing rapidly in Africa, and I would love to be part of this new wave and carve a niche for myself.”
“I believe in my willpower, passion and dedication. I feel I am good with designing aspect of Fashion. I am good with drawing skills (still improvising with each day passing), have an eye for detail and design, and above all creativity and imagination,” she adds.
Suely, We will always be cheering for you here at SFD. Best of luck with your dreams.
