Get ready for your first job with these wardrobe essentials

As the academic year ends and young graduates get ready to take their first steps in the professional world, the BlueCrest School of Fashion & Design has come up with a list of essentials that freshers (women) should have in their wardrobe to make a good impression at work.

What’s more, combining pieces in these lists will create at least 25 new looks. That’s good to go for a whole month!

1. Red pumps
Don’t they say, when in doubt wear red? Wise words. A pair of red hot shoes are a wardrobe staple that would make any outfit chic. They go as well on a formal 9-to-5 look as they do on the outfit for the evening party with colleagues later.

2. White shirt and black trousers
You can never go wrong at work with a white shirt and black pants. They look sophisticated, sharp and chic. Besides, you can team them up with so many things — statement minimalist jewellery, a red lipstick, a chic bag etc. The list goes on.

3. Lbd
If you haven’t been living under a rock, you would know that LBD stands for Little Black Dress and it completes every woman’s wardrobe. Fashion historians credit Coco Chanel with popularising it in the 1920s with different designs that suit different body types.

4. Day Dress
A day dress is a versatile piece that can blend perfectly in different work situations, be it a sudden client meeting, a brunch or presentation. Depending on the event, they can be dressed up or dressed down. They are usually knee-length, made of comfortable fabric like cotton and can be worn with heels or flats.

5. Red dress
Remember the rule above? When in doubt, wear red. There is also scientific proof that people who wear the colour red attract success. The colour will highlight your confidence and ensure that no one can ignore you.
Red has a shade for every skin tone and looks flattering on all women. Make sure that you find something that looks fetching on you and goes easy on the eyes.

6. Flannel shirt
A plaid flannel shirt will make you look chic, no matter what you pair them with — pair of jeans, formal skirt, corduroy pants or classic leggings. They all will work great for regular days and even those casual Fridays at the office. They are soft on the skin and make you look less stuffy than linen shirts.

7. Circular skirt
This skirt gets this name because of the circular shape it gets when it spreads out. Other than the comfort it offers the woman on-the-go, it also looks feminine, casual and classy on all body types. A regular white or black shirt can be teamed up with this classic wear.

8. Floral jacket
These feminine jackets make any boring monotone dress, shirt or attire look chic and fabulous. An elegant necklace or drop earrings along with it will look perfect in boardrooms and business meetings alike.

9. Black or navy suit with a skirt or trouser
This one should be the first thing that you buy for your work wardrobe. Whether you are appearing for an interview or hiring candidates in a college, a black or navy suit paired with a complementary skirt or trouser will render you an air of confidence and authority.
