WHY I CHOSE JOURNALISM AT BLUECREST COLLEGE

Choosing a course of study is one of the most important decisions a student can make. For me, journalism was never just about reading the news or speaking in front of the camera rather it was about telling stories that matter, giving people a voice, and shaping conversations that influence society. After careful consideration, I chose to study journalism at BlueCrest College, and it has proven to be one of the best decisions I’ve made.

I have always been curious about the world around me, why things happen, how people think, and how stories can inspire change. Journalism offers the opportunity to ask questions, seek truth, and present information responsibly. BlueCrest College stood out to me because it doesn’t just teach journalism as a subject; it treats it as a profession built on ethics, creativity, and real-world impact.

One of the major reasons I chose BlueCrest College is its strong emphasis on practical, hands-on learning. As a journalism student, I am given the opportunity to develop key media skills such as presenting, interviewing, reporting, and public speaking. These experiences help build confidence and prepare us for real-life media work.

BlueCrest College also provides a vibrant campus life that enhances our learning experience. Fun and engaging events such as Funky Day, SRC Week, and International Week create exciting opportunities for journalism students like myself. During International Week, international students proudly showcase their cultures. Aside from having all the fun in the world, journalism students are given the opportunity to interview both students and staff, capture real stories, and report on campus activities. This allows me to practice journalism in a lively, real-world setting while celebrating diversity.

In addition, I do extensive practical work and projects in the media studio. From recording programs to running shows, students like myself are actively involved in content creation and production. These studio sessions help me understand how media houses operate, improve our teamwork, and sharpen my on-air confidence.

What makes the journalism program at BlueCrest College even more unique is the exposure I receive beyond the classroom. Our educational visit to Media General, one of Ghana’s leading media houses, gave us first-hand insight into how a major media station operates.

I observed newsroom activities, broadcasting processes, and professional workflows, helping me connect theory to real industry practice.

I also had the opportunity to visit the Supreme Court, where I gained a deeper understanding of the legal system and the relationship between journalism, law, and democracy. Witnessing court proceedings firsthand helped me appreciate the importance of accuracy, ethics, and responsibility in reporting legal and national issues.

BlueCrest College is also known for its experienced lecturers who bring industry knowledge into the classroom. Learning from professionals who understand the realities of journalism, tight deadlines, ethical challenges, and evolving media trends makes the learning process both practical and inspiring.

Looking ahead, my goal is to build a successful and impactful career in journalism. With the knowledge, practical exposure, and experiences I have gained throughout my academic journey, I am confident in my ability to excel and make a meaningful contribution to the media industry.
