BCC radio series focus on mental health issues

BlueCrest radio show ‘Campus Live’ has started a weekly series on the subject of battling mental health issues, to encourage more open conversations on depression and other psychical ailments.

‘Campus Live’ is hosted by Teedum — a student of BA in journalism and mass communications. In the recent live show held on May 7, 2019, guests shared their experiences of living with depression and how they fought to overcome it. 
According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), as many as 300 million people across the world suffer from depression. These people constitute about 4.4 per cent of the human population.
WHO also estimated that of the 21.6 million people living in Ghana, 650,000 are suffering from a severe mental disorder and a further 2,166, 000 are suffering from a moderate to mild mental disorder. The treatment gap is 98% of the total population expected to have a mental disorder.
